Why is my recently neutered cat so aggresive?

My one year old male cat was neutered on 12 April.Ever since he has come back from the vet he has become more aggressive than before and snarls if we pick him up and sometimes runs around the house and if you are in his way he trys to bite you as well.He pants as well.Will this aggression ever calm down and will he become a peaceful house cat?
