How do i stop my cat and my kitten fighting?

My kitten is a female, while my cat is just a 8 year old cat, they love to fight and snarling at each other.When I came home from school today,my kitten was mewing faintly and my cat is snarling i looked at my kitten and she was dead cause she could not stand i cried
