My Siamese cat has gone psychotic over the new kitten's arrival?

I have had my Siamese (male) since he was 3 days old so i guess he sees me as his mum, he's 5 now. 2 days ago we bought a new kitten home, gave it its own room and tried to mix the smells as advised. But my cat seems to actually lose his mind whenever he smells the kitten! If he smells it on my hands/clothes he will start hissing, growling, snarling and actually attacking me which he would never ever normally do. He ventured into the kitten's room while i had the kitten in another room and i couldn't get near him to get him out as he got so violent. But once i changed my shirt and washed my hands he was perfectly fine again with me........ i know it's only been 2 days but i've never seen such a bad reaction from a cat over just a smell (he hasn't actually caught a glimpse of the kitten yet) any suggestions would be great :)
